The thong GIF hit my email inbox on the morning of July 4. In it, six men with chiseled chests pull off six pairs of tear-away army fatigues, revealing six packages wrapped in red, white, and blue thongs.An American flag falls from the sky. Repeat.

It was a scene from Magic Mike — the Steven Soderbergh film that crossed the $100 million box office mark last month — and when I copied the link to my Tumblr, it exploded with a kind of orgasmic fury. Within a matter of minutes, hundreds of women had reblogged the image, many of them too young to even buy tickets to the R-rated film. The puns on “America the Beautiful” were obligatory. (“From seam to shining seam!”) “Why has no one made the [GIF] of Channing Tatum walking away butt naked yet?” one girl cried. Another joked, “my ovaries passed away due to explosion from watching Magic Mike. R.I.P.”

Been listening to his new album, on repeat, on Spotify all day today. Packed with super-cool, head-bopping summer jams. And those last two tracks, totally not what you’d expect from Mr. London, but totally worth those vocal lessons.

What’s the story behind the girl on “One Last Time?”
“One Last Time” was written about this girl, one of my favorite rappers—her name isMapei. She’s an indie legend. She lived in Stockholm, but all of a sudden she just jumped off the radar. She started to work with Downtown Records, started getting produced by Justice but now no one can find her. I called her ex-boyfriend, called her booking agent, just called everyone to try to get a hold of her and then finally I heard that she’s not doing well. She’s living on the street or something like that, so I just wanted to make a song to reach out to her.

Was that one of the most challenging songs to record?

“I Stand Alone” and “Lighthouse” are the songs I put the most effort into. I took four singing lesson courses to just finish those songs alone. I sat down with this lady and worked on my voice; she helped me understand the power of it. I couldn’t have finished those songs without those lessons. Also, the lyrics have a lot of meaning to me. “Lighthouse”…that’s one of my favorites.
